Lambdatherm® Waste Recycling Update
A great example of the approach to sustainability shown by S and B EPS can be seen in its Lambdatherm® waste collection scheme. EPS insulation for solid wall homes in areas of social housing is supplied by S and B EPS. Previously offcuts of expanded polystyrene (EPS) were thrown into skips and then disposed of as landfill.
The recycling scheme has seen S and B EPS provide easily identifiable waste collection bags to installers, this allows materials to be collected and returned to the plant to be recycled back into Lambdatherm® EPS.
Throughout 2015 over 12000 m3 of Lambdatherm® EPS was recycled, equating to over 2400 large skips to landfill which would allow an additional 1850 houses to be insulated.
All of the Lambdatherm® boards manufactured by S and B EPS are produced using raw materials containing the new polymeric flame retardant and are collected as backloads on articulated trailers that are all Euro class 5 or Euro class 6 compliant ensuring the lowest possible carbon footprint.
